Abstract

Character education is an essential aspect of elementary education because it plays a significant role in shaping students' attitudes, behavior, and personality. This study aims to analyze the role of character education in shaping the attitudes and behavior of elementary school students through a literature review approach. The research employed a qualitative method using library research by examining various scientific articles, books, and relevant previous studies. The results of the literature analysis indicate that character education in elementary schools is primarily discussed through the integration of character values into the learning process, habituation, teacher role modeling, school culture, and family involvement. The character values most frequently discussed include honesty, discipline, responsibility, cooperation, tolerance, caring, and religiosity. The analysis of previous studies also indicates that character education makes a positive contribution to the development of students' attitudes and behavior, although it still faces several challenges, including the influence of digital technology, inconsistencies in the cultivation of character values, and suboptimal collaboration between schools and families. Therefore, character education requires the support of all stakeholders to develop a generation with strong character, integrity, and readiness to face the challenges of the twenty-first century.
